No Asshole Company? Is this some kind of bizarre joke?

On the contrary.

It is a very sincere company name, which reflects a crucial principle we all should actively embrace. Too many of us have encountered assholes– persons, who with improper behavior such as bullying, sarcasm, threats, humiliation or interruption make others feel worse about themselves. We have seen and experienced them ourselves. These assholes, most often acting from positions of power, create anxiety and fear in the organizations where they act, they destroy positive cultures and make their fellow colleagues lose commitment or change workplace. Assholes cause a lot of costs and damage that is hard to repair.

Companies with rigorously executed no asshole policies are much better off in all respects. This is where everyone wants to work. Each and one of us can elect not to act as an asshole and to react if you see one. The faster they are identified and remedied the better. Stanford professor Robert I. Sutton has researched the asshole phenomenon as documented in an article in Harvard Business Review of 2004 and his works The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn't and The Asshole Survival Guide.

We founded No Asshole Company and No Asshole Ventures to continue the work we have done building Finnish new law firm Fondia Ltd. (Nasdaq First North Helsinki) from scratch. No Asshole Ventures invests in companies that combine a no asshole foundation with badass business. We offer you our experience and sincere eagerness to help you thrive.

The difference between how a person treats the powerless versus the powerful is as good a measure of human character as I know.
